Black is Beautiful
Fearfully and Wonderfully Made
Song of Songs 1:5-6
Women of Jerusalem
I am dark, but beautiful
Dark as the desert tents
Of Kedar
But beautiful as the draperies in
Solomon's palace
Don't look down on me
Because of the color
Of my skin
We hear this phrase a lot, "Black is Beautiful." Do we really know how true this is. Everyday when I wake up, I walk over to my mirror and remind myself that I too am fearfully and wonderfully made. When I kiss my daughter and my sons in the early morning, I'm reminded that black is beautiful. What reminds me more so of this fact is when I see my regal, intelligent and very outspoken parents. I begin to realize that black beauty is not only on the outside but it travels within our being.
The next time you hear the phrase, "Black is Beautiful," remember that we are speaking of our outter shell, and the spirit that dwell therein. We speak of our intelligent minds, our accepting hearts, our powerful soul... these are the essence of who we are.
When I think of Black Beauty, I think of my parents, grandparents, siblings and a number of family members, but I also think of Condoleeza Rice, Barack and Michelle Obama, Sojourner Truth, Maya Angelou, Toni Morrison, Dr. Daniel Hale Williams, Judge Hatchett, Adam, Eve and so many more ... there's just not enough room to mention them all.
So here's to being Black and Proud. We have learned that we must love and appreciate ourselves first in order for others to feel welcome to love and appreciate us.
God Bless

Thanks Ms. Evans,
Oh my gosh, you're my first fan. (smile) God Bless You as well. I was still editing my hub when you commented. I'm pretty new to this whole hubpages site, and I am still trying to figure it out. So thanks again, hope you continue to read my writings and I will stop by your page to make sure I become a fan as well.
Thanks

I find myself being caught with the edit button too!!! Your hubs are quite inspirational and I am honored to be a fan. I wrote an article on Black VS. White as I am so tired of others speaking about the Black race, and after awhile you have it up to your ears so as a person that believes people do not have color , I wrote about it. I will be reading your articles often as they are written with heart , power and emotion. Let us know if you need anything or you can shoot an e-mail I will be happy to help you. God Bless, Julianna
